There are two key UK double bedding sizes you need to know: 135 x 190cm is the size of a double bed, double mattress and double fitted sheet. 200 x 200cm is the size of a double duvet and double duvet cover.

1. WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF A SMALL DOUBLE BED? - Small double bed dimensions are 120cm wide and 190cm long. Or 48 x 35 inches. A small double bed is also known as a queen. It is essentially 15cm narrower than a full double bed.

2. WHAT IS A STANDARD DOUBLE? - A standard double is 135cm wide and 190cm long, 15cm wider than a small double. It is the most common double size bed in the UK.

3. WHAT SIZE IS A DOUBLE DUVET? - Double duvet dimensions are 200 x 200cm or 79 x 79 inches. A double size duvet will also fit a small double bed. Not many brands make small double size duvets.

4. WHAT SIZE DUVET IS BEST FOR A DOUBLE BED? - A double duvet measuring 200cm x 200cm is the best duvet size for a double bed. If you prefer a larger duvet, you could use a king size duvet, 225cm x 220cm, instead.

5. WHAT SIZE SHEET IS FOR A DOUBLE BED? - A double fitted sheet is 135cm x 190cm or a double flat sheet measures 230cm x 275cm.

6. WHAT IS THE DEPTH OF A DOUBLE MATTRESS? - Mattresses vary in depth from 6cm to over 30cm. At scooms we've made our bed sheets deep fitting - 40cm / 15.7" - to make sure that they will fit almost every mattress and most importantly so that they are easy to put onto the bed!

7. WILL A DOUBLE DUVET COVER FIT A KING SIZE DUVET? - No, it will be too small. Your duvet cover should always be a loose fit on your duvet otherwise it will squash the duvet filling, reducing its performance.

8. WHAT IS THE US SIZE EQUIVALENT FOR A DOUBLE BED? - The standard sizes for American beds and the approximate UK equivalents are King (UK Super King), Queen (UK King), Full (UK Double) and Twin (UK Single). Alternative names for duvets in the US are comforters, quilts and duvet inserts.

9. IS A TWIN DUVET THE SAME AS A DOUBLE DUVET? - No, a twin duvet is a US duvet size and varies by manufacturer. It is typically 66 - 68" width x 86 - 88" length. UK double duvet dimensions are 200cm x 200cm.
